Own your story and don’t dare apologise for it being a good read

“You either walk inside your story and own it or you stand outside your story and hustle for your worthiness." - Brené Brown

Most people don’t understand my story from the outside looking in, and it’s taken me a long time to be okay with that.

Not everyone is going to get “it.” Judgement is the easier option. It takes time and understanding to put yourself in someone else’s shoes.

And for the most part, when you’re chronically ill, people don’t want to do that.

It’s easier to think that we are just “not trying hard enough” to get better, or we haven’t tried everything, etc., etc.

The truth is, most people don’t actually want to get “it.” Because “it” is uncomfortable.

So whilst sharing my story with people that genuinely want to understand my experience is something that I welcome, fighting for recognition or proving myself to people who are committed to misunderstanding me is something I do not.

It is a lonely path but one that is less so with this community.

We are inherently worthy of the space that we take up and shouldn’t feel the need to sugarcoat that which has shaped our life in order to make “it” more palatable for others.

Your story is in fact remarkable, and has likely helped so many others feel less alone - so own it.

Own your undeniable strength.

Own your struggles overcome.

Own your unique perspective.

Own what you have to offer.

Own your story and don’t dare apologise for it being a good read.
